The 33-year-old man was detained in England on 30 December and taken to Northern Ireland the following day, according to a statement from the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

He is understood to be Patrick Martens, a former psychology research fellow. The alleged threats were against another academic at Queen鈥檚.

The PSNI statement says: 鈥淒etectives have arrested and questioned a 33-year-old man in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged threats, intimidation and threats to kill made against a former employee at Queen鈥檚 University.鈥

He has been released on bail 鈥減ending further enquiries鈥 the statement adds.

A spokesman for Queen鈥檚 confirmed that the arrested man and the academic against who the threats were allegedly made are both former employees of the university, adding that the issue was a police matter.

In September last year, Queen鈥檚 obtained an injunction preventing Dr Martens entering university property.
