A shaggy dog story from Heriot-Watt University, one of whose students graduated in absentia, received his degree certificate by post, but lost it before he had even opened it. Several months later the university received the mutilated certificate along with a request for a replacement and the following message: "While digging out an overgrown strawberry patch I found the missing package.

"What I deduce is that my labrador puppy had removed the package from our kitchen and buried it in the garden. The dog looked decidedly guilty when I showed him the package."
