The University of Glasgow has named Andy Schofield, currently vice-chancellor of Lancaster University, as its next principal.
Professor Schofield will join Glasgow in September 2025, taking聽up the post on the retirement of Sir Anton Muscatelli, who has led the institution since 2009.
The theoretical physicist has led Lancaster since 2020 and before that held a series of senior roles at the University of Birmingham, ending up as pro vice-chancellor and head of the College of Engineering and Physical Science. He spent much of his early career as a research fellow at the University of Cambridge.
Gavin Stewart, Glasgow鈥檚 convenor of court, said he was 鈥渄elighted鈥 with the appointment.

Under Sir Anton鈥檚 leadership, Glasgow has developed its research activity and its global links, now boasting more than 11,000 staff and an economic impact estimated at 拢4.4 billion annually.

Professor Schofield said that it was a 鈥済reat honour鈥 to take over at the helm of the institution.
