Record numbers studying at UK institutions
More students than ever are studying at universities and colleges in the United Kingdom, according to data released today by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. Full-time places have been accepted by 355,765 people.
Ulster to build venture capital fund
Ulster University is talking with Irish and US funding sources to create a 拢10 million venture capital fund for university spin-off companies. John Hughes, UU鈥檚 pro vice-chancellor of research and development, said: 鈥淲e believe there is a gap in funding for entrepreneurs seeking larger amounts of start-up capital in Northern Ireland.鈥
Lottery funds observatory to reopen eyes
Herstmonceux Observatory in Sussex is to receive nearly 拢800,000 of lottery funds to restore its giant telescopes and open them to the public.
Rowett lab lays off llamas
The Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen is raising funds by selling llamas as pets. It created a herd for a research project but is now selling animals bred on site for 拢200 to 拢700.
