Middlesex said today that Professor Blackman, currently acting vice-chancellor at the OU, will succeed Professor Driscoll, who is retiring in the summer after leading the university for nearly 20 years.
Professor Blackman joined the OU in 2011 as pro vice-chancellor for research and quality, having also worked at Oxford Brookes University, Teesside University and Durham University.
He said: 鈥淢iddlesex transforms the lives of its students across the globe with an experience that鈥檚 all about the future professionals who will make tomorrow better. Its research creates new knowledge that today鈥檚 world needs as we face the challenges of globalisation and sustainable living.聽
鈥淢iddlesex believes in itself and in what it does.聽It is an honour to be entrusted with making its future in the years ahead.鈥澛犅犅

Colin Hughes, chair of the Middlesex board of governors, said Professor Blackman 鈥渂rings with him a wealth of experience, and a real commitment to the values and ethos of the university鈥.聽
He added: 鈥淧rofessor Driscoll has led the university through significant change, and has recently invested more than 拢200 million providing our students with an outstanding campus environment. I鈥檓 confident that Tim has exactly the right qualities to build on that impressive legacy, and continue leading the university鈥檚 staff and students to success.鈥
