“A nice collegial caring unit had become toxic. It’s rat race to the bottom, with colleagues mistrusting of management…and not knowing how to cooperate while for individual survival it appears best strategy to compete with each other.”

This is the experience of one of the more than 900 UK university staff members who have so far completed ̽����Ƶ’s , which closes shortly.

“Tears, stress-related illnesses and breakdowns on the rise,” adds the respondent, whose department has seen recent redundancies and who fears for their own job. “What’s most ironic is that it has lost more staff hours overall than it will save.”

Does this reflect your experience? Whether your department or division have experienced redundancies or not, whether you are an academic or professional services staff member, whether you are employed or unemployed, we are still keen to hear your views. Our aim is to build as detailed and comprehensive a picture as possible of the extent, causes and effects of the current wave of redundancies in UK universities.
