Department of Architecture

PolyU is going to establish the Department of Architecture (ARCH) under the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) with effect from 1 July 2026. ?FCE is globally renowned for its excellence in Architecture & Built Environment and Civil & Structural Engineering, both ranked 17th worldwide by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS Subject Ranking) in 2025. As a new dynamic hub for architectural innovation, ARCH aims to consolidate FCE’s academic strengths, drive innovative education and research, attract global talent, and elevate both the Faculty’s and PolyU’s international standing in architecture and advanced technologies. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the Department’s vision, building a strong academic team to achieve transformative impact in AI-enhanced and big data driven architectural education and research.

The University is now inviting applications and nominations for the post of Head of Department of Architecture.? The successful candidate will be appointed Chair Professor/Professor normally on regular terms of appointment (equivalent to tenured professorship), commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, and will hold a concurrent headship appointment. The concurrent headship appointment is normally for an aggregate period of six years in two three-year terms of office. Other suitable candidate(s) from the search, if deemed appropriate by the University, may be appointed Chair Professor/Professor if not Head of Department.?

Job Functions

The position calls for a visionary academic leader with responsibilities of ensuring the smooth and successful operation and sustainable development of the Department. ?Reporting directly to the Dean of Faculty of Construction and Environment, the appointee will be required to:

(a) ? ?provide effective leadership in the development of long-term strategies and plans of the Department, in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan, particularly focusing on AI-based and data-driven approaches to enhance architectural practices; and coach and empower subordinates so that they can accomplish planned objectives with world-class standards and in an effective and efficient manner;

(b) ? ?ensure high-quality teaching as well as holistic development of the students, integrating AI/engineering technology into the Department’s academic programmes to meet community needs and industry standards;?

(c) ? ?facilitate the conduct of innovative and original research of high quality and impact, and promote and develop genuine interdisciplinary research with the optimal use of research funds;?

(d) ? ?provide leadership in technology development, commercialisation and entrepreneurship initiatives to extend the impact of research outcomes of the University to the community;

(e) ? ?provide leadership in developing a strong network of partnership with leading tertiary institutions for opportunities and collaboration in education, research and knowledge transfer activities; ?

(f)? ? ?enhance the local and international partnerships with the community, particularly the professional, public and business sectors, so as to gain their support for the major strategic initiatives of the University;?

(g) ? ?ensure effective internal communication that leads to a transparent decision-making process and promote the Department’s strengths and other services to all relevant stakeholders;

Qualifications?

Applicants should have:

(a) ? ?academic qualifications at the doctoral level in a relevant academic discipline, evidence of eminent scholarship and substantial relevant experience in a senior academic position, with relevant professional qualification and registration where appropriate; ?

(b) ? ?attainment of an academic rank of full professor or above at an internationally recognised university;

(c) ? ?a distinguished global reputation in research and scholarship, and demonstrated international leadership in Architecture / Architectural Engineering and/or closely related disciplines;

Our dynamic interdisciplinary team at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry offers a position for a PraeDoc in the areas of bioinorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry, and chemical biology in an inspiring scientific environment and a pleasant working atmosphere. A main aim of our work is the development of innovative approaches to target the role of transition metals in cancer growth. Strong expertise and state-of-the-art instrumentation for developing novel anticancer drugs are provided by this team.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research as well as teaching which means:


	Original research projects in the area of bioinorganic chemistry mainly focusing on the synthesis and characterization of novel ligands and/or metal complexes for applications in chemical biology and medicinal chemistry.?
	Synthetic research work will take place in close coordination with experts in molecular biology and cell biology to enable the optimal design of the potential cancer therapeutics.
	You will be expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
	You will be actively involved in research, teaching and administration.
	You will participate in publications, academic articles, presentations.
	You will take part in teaching duties to the extent specified in the collective agreement.

This is part of your personality:


	You have a diploma or master’s degree in chemistry, preferably with inorganic chemistry or equivalent qualification.
	Experience in the field of synthetic chemistry, especially in the synthesis of biologically active organometallics, preferably of tumor-inhibiting iron and/or ruthenium complexes.
	Experience in characterization of novel structures by homo/hetero nuclear 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy is required.
	Experience working under inert conditions (Schlenk technique) and experience in microwave-assisted synthesis of metal complexes is desirable.
	Basic experience in research methods and academic writing.
	Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part a team.
	Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
	Experience in academic teaching (including e-learning) is desirable.

With over 100 Principal Investigators, our research spans development from childhood to old age, encompassing basic research through to the development and implementation of treatments, services and policy.

The Research Operations Officer is a role within the MHaPS School Research Operations Team.

About the role:

The School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences (MHAPS) is seeking to appoint a Research Operations Officer to join our dynamic team and support our Principal Investigators (PI), researchers and the wider School Operations Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious individual with a good understanding of administration in the higher education research funding landscape.

The successful candidate will be capable of working autonomously and liaising directly with various stakeholders, including PIs, researchers, department/school leadership and central support services.

The role holder will work closely with researchers to support the grant lifecycle, with a primary focus on post-award activities and will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of awards for the departments of Health Service & Population Research (HSPR) and Social Genetics & Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP).

The role would suit someone who can effectively manage competing priorities, has good attention to detail, and can build and maintain effective working relationships across the School, Faculty, and University.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

We work a hybrid pattern, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.
