Fo Guang University was founded in 1993 as Taiwan’s seventh Buddhist university and the first in the Linyang district of Yilan County.?
It belongs to the Fo Guang Shan community founded by Hsing Yun (1927-2023) with more than 200 branches worldwide and other academic institutions in the US, Australia, Philippines and Hong Kong.
Its campus sits on mountain slopes at an altitude of 430m above the town of Jao Xi.?
It has grown gradually, with the first students not admitted until 2000 and a current roll of more than 3,000 who are divided between Colleges of Applied Technology and Design, Human and Social Sciences, Health and Management, and Buddhist Studies. Applicants have to prove proficiency in either English or Chinese.
FGU created an International Office in 2015 and takes more than 100 exchange students each year, many in the Department of Vegetarian Food.
More than 50 international recruits from counties including Malaysia. Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan and Vietnam account for more than one third of the total roll.?
It also has a strong history in women’s basketball, winning the national championship in 2019 and allotting scholarship places to the programme each year.?

The University of Hong Kong has a highly ranked engineering school and active electrical and electronic engineering programmes. The EEE Department offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. Information about the Department can be obtained at http://www.eee.hku.hk/.?

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a closely related field, with a strong commitment to research and teaching. A solid track record in research is essential, preferably in neuroscience and biomedical applications utilizing novel optical tools.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will be entitled to a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.

Primary responsibility will be given for specific subject areas, but the Professional Training team routinely coordinates work across departmental/school boundaries to foster efficiency and sharing of best practice.

About you

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strong customer focus and attention to detail, especially with regards to maintenance of spreadsheets and databases. Strong interpersonal skills are required for the variety of stakeholders you will deal with on a daily basis including academic staff, administrative staff, students and employers.

The role

We are seeking a candidate who is excited to take on a secondment opportunity within Academic Quality Services, which sits within the Directorate of Academic Performance, Quality and Governance. We are small team that are responsible for key processes of the programme life cycle. The team validate new programmes, process modifications to programmes, coordinate the external examiner process, monitor and track our Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies that recognise or accredit many of our programmes, and much more. In essence the team ensure that our programmes meet the required standards and quality, as well as drive enhancements to create the best experience for our students. We are open to considerations of flexible working, and the team supports hybrid working, with the ability to work in the office and from home, in line with business needs.

The role specifically will coordinate our external examining process, which will include assisting with the nomination process, liaising with academic teams on modules that require a new external examiner to be allocated, processing claim forms and annual reports and tracking progress and reporting of this process. The role also assists with a variety of other processes such as our modification process, the continuous enhancement review process, sources panel members for our validation and periodic enhancement events and assists with day to day coordination for our team. The role will update and monitor relevant process guides.?

About you

This role requires excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate in a professional manner with a wide range of stakeholders. The role will require experience of coordinating different processes concurrently and have close attention to detail. The role requires working with spreadsheets and abstracting data. We are looking for a team player that is able to learn a range of new systems and be pro-active. We are seeking an enthusiastic person that ideally has experience working within higher education. The role is until the end of April 2026.
