Research in “Light, Life, Liberty”

With its 10 faculties, the University of Jena covers the broad academic canon from natural and life sciences (including human medicine) to social sciences and humanities. It pools its research areas into the three main themes of  representing the proven strengths of the University of Jena. 

“Light” integrates material and energy research combining these with cutting-edge science in optics and photonics. 

“Life” connects microbiology and biodiversity, as well as research into ageing and sepsis. 

“Liberty” combines research on Enlightenment and Romanticism with contemporary research in social sciences, history, and Eastern Europe.
