Gachon University

Gachon University was established 2012 through the merger of Gachon University of Medicine and Kyungwon University. Both had undergone earlier mergers, incorporating Gachon-Gi College and Kyungwon College respectively, in 2007.
The global campus in Seongnam, part of Seoul Metropolitan district, is close to the city’s international airport and has its own metro station. It accommodates schools of liberal arts, business, social science, humanities, law, engineering, bio-nano technology, semiconductors, IT convergence, Korean medicine, physical education, graduate arts and science, and the special graduate school.
The medical campus in Incheon accommodates medicine, nursing, health sciences, pharmacy, laboratory science and the advanced institute of health science and technology.
Software education is compulsory for every student.
The university has a medical centre and an artificial intelligence centre which offered the first programme in artificial intelligence in Korea from 2020.
An international agreement with Hawaii Pacific University enables 300 GU students to spend periods of four to 15 weeks in Hawaii every year.

Abstract:

This research assistant focuses on the design, prototyping, and testing of bio-inspired drones, inspired by the aerodynamics and adaptability of natural flyers such as birds and bats. The candidate will contribute to the mechanical design, composite fabrication, and experimental validation of UAV structures, integrating morphing wings and additive manufacturing processes for high-performance and energy-efficient drones.

Objectives:

The main objective is to support the development and validation of morphing drone prototypes by combining structural optimization, lightweight design, and experimental testing. The research assistant will:


	Participate in CAD/CAE modeling and structural optimization of UAV frames.
	Contribute to fabrication using composite and polymer additive manufacturing.
	Prepare and execute aerodynamic, vibration, and endurance testing campaigns.
	Assist in assembling and calibrating morphing-wing UAV prototypes.


Methodology:


	Design and Simulation: ABAQUS, SolidWorks, ANSYS, or COMSOL for topology optimization and aerodynamic modeling.
	Fabrication: Composite layup, 3D printing (FDM/SLA), and assembly of drone airframes.
	Testing: Wind tunnel, fatigue, and flight tests for mechanical and aerodynamic validation.
	Data Processing: Documentation, data analysis, and contribution to reports/publications.


Expected Outcomes:


	TRL 5 UAV prototype.
	3 Q1 publications and one patent contribution.
	Workflow for morphing UAV design established at UM6P.


Profile of the Research Assistant Candidate & Application Materials


	Engineering degree (Bac+5) or equivalent in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
	Background in CAD/CAE, structural design, or composite materials.

At the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry our highly motivated interdisciplinary team offers a position for a PraeDoc in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology in an inspiring scientific environment and a pleasant working atmosphere. A main aim of our work is the development of innovative approaches to elucidate the role of transition metals in cancer growth. Projects will involve the characterization of biological activities of novel anticancer compounds, including metal complexes and/or metal-binding agents, in two- and three-dimensional in-vitro models. Strong expertise and state-of-the-art instrumentation for preclinical development of novel anticancer drugs are provided by this team.

The contract duration is?3 years?with a preliminary limitation of 1,5 years and will automatically be extended to 3 years unless the employer hands in a non-extension declaration after 12 months. An?extension up to?a total of?4 years?is then possible provided the excellent performance of the candidate.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research as well as teaching which means:


	Original research projects in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology, focused on the biological effects of novel tumor-inhibiting compounds and therapy resistance mechanisms in human cell models.
	Characterization of bioactivities by cell and molecular biology-based methods including flow cytometry, (confocal) microscopy, and immunofluorescence will take place in coordination with experts in synthetic chemistry so as to enable the optimal design of potential cancer therapeutics.
	You will participate in the preparation of internal reports, publications, academic articles, and presentations of scientific results at (inter)national conferences.
	You will be expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
	You will be actively involved in research, teaching, and administration.
	You will teach courses independently to the extent specified in the collective agreement.
	You will instruct bachelor and master students and carry out administrative tasks in teaching and/or research.


This is part of your personality:


	You have a diploma or masters degree in molecular biology, biological chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, or equivalent qualification.
	Experience in mammalian cell culture techniques and characterization of compound bioactivity, ideally including flow cytometry and imaging-based methods.
	Basic experience in research methods and academic writing.
	Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part a team.
	Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
	Experience in academic teaching (including e-learning) is desirable.
	As an enthusiastic, hard-working, motivated scientist who enjoys working independently as well as being a team player, you will blend into and be a valuable addition to our group.
	Very good knowledge of English, basic knowledge of German.

About the Role?

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing the successful delivery of complex IT and cybersecurity projects using appropriate methodologies to achieve effective and sustainable business outcomes.
