Gonbad Kavous University was founded in 1983 as an agricultural school and is now the largest higher education institution in eastern Golestan province, in Iran. It is located in the historic city of Gonbad Kavous. The university became independent in 2007 and gained full university status in 2013.
Today, Gonbad Kavous University has over 3,600 students studying 68 programmes across five faculties, from associate degrees to PhDs. It has labs, sports facilities and student housing.
Research focuses on watershed and desert management, horticulture, rangeland ecology and agriculture, helping support sustainable development in the region.
