Mingachevir State University was officially established by presidential resolution on 24 July 2015, although its origins date back to 1991 when it operated as the Mingachevir branch of Azerbaijan Industrial University, later becoming Mingachevir Energy Institute and Mingachevir Polytechnic Institute. 

The university has grown steadily and now offers programmes across economics, engineering, information technology, and education, with 24 bachelor’s specialisations and 14 master’s programmes. It comprises three faculties and 10 departments, serving over 3,000 students.

It maintains strong national and international collaborations with institutions such as Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, and numerous universities across Türkiye, Germany, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, supporting student and staff exchanges, joint research, and Erasmus+ participation.

Students can study a wide range of subjects including economics, management, finance, accounting, marketing, pedagogy, computer science, information technologies, electrical and mechanical engineering, energy systems, and environmental studies. 

The university prioritises practical learning and career development, cooperating with government agencies, private enterprises, NGOs, and youth organisations to enhance students’ skills, innovation potential, and employment prospects.
