We are looking for motivated researchers to apply for the postdoctoral research associate position in robotics and AI, funded by our new EPSRC project titled “Circular Robot 5.0: Industry Wide Data-Driven Circular Economy of Industrial Robots”. The candidates are expected to have experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital twins. We are looking for candidates who can join the project team in January 2026 or soon after.?

The candidate will join the Department of Engineering at King’s College London. They will become a member of the Centre for Robotics Research (CORE) and the Social AI & Robotics Lab (SAIR, led by Dr Oya Celiktutan). In 2025, King's College London is ranked 31st globally in the QS World University Rankings. It is also ranked 36th in the world by 探花视频. As one of the largest robotics research centres in the UK, CORE at Engineering is a multidisciplinary research group that is internationally recognised for its exceptionally high-quality robotics research in the areas of robot grasping and manipulation, kinematics and mechanisms, sensing, and human-robot interaction. Within CORE, SAIR focuses on multimodal machine learning for human-centred embodied AI, specifically tackling challenges in multimodal perception, understanding and forecasting human behaviour, as well as advancing the navigation, manipulation, and social awareness skills of robots. SAIR’s research has been recognised with several awards, including the Best Paper Award at IEEE Ro-Man 2022, the NVIDIA CCS Best Student Paper Award Runner-Up at IEEE FG 2021, and First Place and Honourable Mention Awards at the ICCV UDIVA Challenge 2021.?

About the role

The UK, being the eighth largest manufacturing economy, is increasing its reliance on industrial robots (IR) within its manufacturing sector. According to BEIS research, the country's industrial robotics market is projected to grow at over 40% annually from 2020–2030. However, this rapid integration raises concerns about environmental sustainability, given that decommissioned robots and related equipment often contain large amounts of critical raw materials (CRM). This project aims to investigate digital solutions to promote a circular use of traditional and collaborative IR in manufacturing lines by extending their useful life as well as enabling their end-of-life (EoL) remanufacturing and recycling of embedded CRM.

The candidate will join our multidisciplinary research team and will collaborate with both academic and industrial partners, including the Royal College of Art, Loughborough University, University College London, and the Manufacturing Technology Centre, alongside industry partners such as NVIDIA, OMRON, ASTM International, Katlas Technology, Wootzano, and Inovo Robotics. Within the scope of this project, the candidate will contribute to the development of digital enablers for authentic real-time performance data and responsible decision-making, by putting user needs at the centre.

The successful candidate is expected to: ?

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	PhD awarded (or near completion*) in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, AI, or a related field
	Strong background in machine learning and robotics, with specialisation in one or more of the following areas: generative models, reinforcement learning, human-centred AI, simulation/digital twins, or related areas
	Excellent publication record in high-quality journals and/or conference proceedings, including but not limited to ICRA, IROS, RA-L, CoRL, AAAI, NeurIPS, or related venues
	Excellent programming skills, particularly in Python; hands-on experience with deep learning libraries (e.g., PyTorch)
	Hands-on experience with at least one of the following areas: ROS, physical robots, and robotic simulation platforms
	Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to both academic and non-academic audiences


Desirable criteria


	Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research environment

About the role:

The Accounts Payable (P2P) Transactional Processing team are responsible for processing supplier invoices to ensure University Suppliers are paid punctually and efficiently, meeting time and quality targets, within a framework of robust internal controls, including adequate separation of duties.

The University has a complex Accounts Payable (Procure to Pay Services) environment, with a proportion of foreign and exotic currency payments, subsidiary companies, one-off suppliers and other anomalies (such as student payments).

The team includes a number of Accounts Payable Finance Assistants (P2P) to cover the duties and responsibilities listed within this Job Description.

The post holders are required to rotate between these tasks periodically as required by the service and to ensure adequate distribution of knowledge. Excellent customer service and professionalism is a core requirement for this role. The team delivers services to both internal and external customers. Post holders are also required to cover the allocated duties of other team members at short notice to cover absences and ensure continuity of service.

About Us

The Department of Infectious Diseases brings together researchers and students to understand the pathogenic mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of human infections.

Our research bridges strengths in laboratory-based enquiry using molecular genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology and structural biology, with rich clinical resources in microbiology, virology, sexually transmitted diseases and clinical trials.

A major theme in the department is understanding how pathogens interact with their hosts to replicate, transmit, and evolve, and how infection- and vaccine-induced immunity protects us in the face of new and emerging threats.

The Odendall Laboratory, led by Dr Charlotte Odendall, is based within the Department of Infectious Diseases at King’s College London. Our research focuses on innate immunity and host–pathogen interactions, with a particular emphasis on how host signalling pathways are activated and subverted during infection. We combine molecular and cellular approaches with in vivo models to uncover the mechanisms that determine infection outcomes.

About the role

Inflammatory pathways at barrier sites act as gatekeepers between health and disease. The Odendall Laboratory investigates how immune responses at mucosal barrier sites control infection and how bacteria in turn evolve strategies to subvert these defences. By combining infection models with molecular analysis, we aim to uncover the pathways that determine whether pathogens are eliminated or establish disease.

Among these regulatory nodes are calcium-regulated kinases, including CaMKII, which we and others have found to be activated during infection and targeted by bacterial effectors (Alphonse et al, Cell 2022). Our recent work shows that CaMKII is required for signalling downstream of multiple innate immune receptors, and that its inhibition or deletion in vivo leads to increased bacterial burden and pathology. Together, these findings highlight CaMKII as a central node in the host–pathogen interface.

We are seeking a driven Postdoctoral Research Associate with a strong immunology and in vivo infection biology skillset to lead a high-impact project with two key aims: (1) to define the roles of CaMKII isoforms in epithelial and immune cells during infection, and (2) to determine, how loss of CaMKII activity alters host responses, inflammation, and bacterial pathogenesis in mouse models of infection.

The successful candidate will join a team within the Department of Infectious Diseases, a collaborative and supportive environment with strong links across King’s and the Francis Crick Institute.

Applicants should hold a PhD in immunology, infection biology, or a related discipline. Experience with mouse models of infection and/or inflammation is essential. Prior experience with bacterial infection models will be advantageous. A strong interest in innate immunity and host–pathogen interactions, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, are essential. The candidate will be expected to contribute data and writing to peer-reviewed manuscripts and will be supported for applications for independent fellowships towards the end of the post.
