Pázmány Péter Catholic University was founded in 1635 by Archbishop Péter Pázmány during the Ottoman occupation. It is one of Hungary’s oldest universities and was created to preserve Hungarian culture and values. About the Role

Working under general to broad direction, the Senior Technical Officer – Microscopy and Histology is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of Histology, Immunohistochemistry, and Histochemistry services. This includes managing equipment, providing user training, and supporting researchers and students in the use of these facilities. The role also plays a key part in supporting microscopy and histology teaching activities within the College, particularly through the preparation and maintenance of tissue samples and slides. Additionally, the position contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of work health and safety (WHS) procedures, as well as administrative tasks such as record keeping and invoicing for the Light Microscopy Facility. The Senior Technical Officer will work closely with the Microscopy Lead Academic and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery and support.

About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:


	Proven skills in routine histology, histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry techniques.
	Proficiency in brightfield, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy techniques.
	Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines.
	High-level organisational skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and sound judgement.
	Ability to develop protocols, train users, and manage online equipment/resource booking systems.

The project is funded by Met ?ireann under grant agreement No 2024-1127, part of the TRANSLATE project delivering state of the art climate services for Ireland. The successful candidate will work with the PI Prof. Conor Murphy, and collaborators Prof. Peter Thorne and Dr. Amr Mahfouz, together with a PhD researcher to deliver the project..

The EXACT project

The EXACT project seeks to advance understanding of climate change impacts on extremes in Ireland. It will do this by leveraging Met Eireann’s rich observational data and cutting edge projections of future climate from the TRANSLATE project. At the core of the project is the production of knowledge to inform effective climate services in realising the national objective of a climate resilient Ireland. EXACT will develop a catalogue of hydrometeorological extremes for Ireland, undertake detection and attribution assessments of change in observed timeseries of extremes, examine causal chains linking meteorological and hydrological extremes and their impacts, and develop novel storyline based methods to enhance knowledge and communication for adapting to compound extreme events that have cascading impacts across sectors in Ireland. A key strength of the proposal is its integration across meteorology and hydrology to improve understanding of the key risks posed by climate change to Ireland and advance toolkits for timely and effective adaptation.?

Post-Doctoral Researcher Salary Scale:?€46,305 per annum (1 point, with increment)
