The Royal University for Women, founded in 2005, is Bahrain’s first private university for women’s higher education. It was developed with help from McGill University in Canada and Middlesex University in the UK. The university opened in a temporary space before moving to its current large campus in Riffa in 2006.
RUW offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in subjects like law, business, financial sciences and art and design. Its courses are designed to meet industry needs, supported by partnerships with international universities and local groups.
The university also has a Centre for Women’s Studies, working with the Supreme Council for Women and ESCWA, making it a regional centre for research on gender, leadership and social change.
All programmes follow Bahrain’s National Qualifications Framework. The campus is focused on sustainability to improve student life. Since opening, RUW has graduated over 1,600 women who have made important contributions in Bahrain and beyond.
