The University of Science and Technology was originally founded in 1992 as the National College of Science and Technology. Two years later it was renamed the University of Science and Technology and became Yemen’s first private university.
The university’s main campus is now located in Aden, after relocating from Sana’a in 2020, and operates additional branches across the country, including Taiz, Hadhramout, and a women-only branch in the capital. Aden, a port city on the southern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, is a key commercial hub, historically known for its maritime trade and strategic location along the Gulf of Aden.
Academically, the university comprises of three faculties: Faculty of Health and Medicine Sciences, Faculty of Computing and Engineering, and the Faculty of Humanities and Administrative Sciences. Within these faculties are different departments offering a range of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programmes.

Do you have a passion for sound and live performance? We’re looking for an experienced Performing Arts Technician (Sound) to join the technical team within the Operations and Events Department at GSA.

In this role, you’ll bring specialist expertise to support the delivery of GSA’s programmes, with a particular focus on theatre productions, technical lectures, and live events. Working closely with staff and students, you’ll help realise productions and performances of the highest standard, while sharing your skills to develop the next generation of theatre professionals.

You’ll play a key part in delivering:


	GSA productions and public performances
	Technical lectures across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
	Research events and student society activities
	Open days, conferences, lectures, and other events


The technical team also provides equipment, mentoring, and maintenance support, ensuring excellence across all GSA activities. Providing an outstanding student experience is central to everything we do.

Hours are typically Monday-Friday, 9-5, with some flexibility around production schedules.

About you

You’ll bring professional experience of working within a sound department on varied live productions, ideally with some experience in a Conservatoire or Higher Education setting.

As an experienced sound technician, you’ll have:


	Knowledge of current practices and techniques in professional theatre and live entertainment
	Strong administrative, pastoral, and interpersonal skills
	The ability to supervise, mentor, and support students and freelance staff
	Experience assisting with technical lectures and supporting student learning
	Experience managing equipment, budgets, and maintenance
	Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage your own workload


You’ll also have up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and a commitment to promoting safe working and inclusive practices.

About the role

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the group of Dr. Chiara Gattinoni — within the Theory and Simulation of Condensed Matter research group — on the materials modelling of ultrathin ferroelectric films. The overall goal of this research project is to produce strategies to manipulate the polarization in ultrathin ferroelectrics, and to design ferroelectric thin films possessing the desired magnitude and direction of the polarization.?

The successful candidate will perform atomistic simulations, using both density functional theory and classical molecular dynamics, on ultrathin films of a range of ferroelectric perovskites of technological interest.

This position is supported by the EPSRC New Investigator Award grant “Customisable polarization in ultrathin ferroelectrics”.

The position is based in the Department of Physics, King’s College London on the Strand Campus in the heart of central London.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract with a two-year length.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the ?Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
