University of Tirana is Albania’s largest and oldest public university, established in 1957 by merging several independent institutions focused on sciences, law, economics and education.

It is based in Tirana, Albania’s capital city known for its colourful buildings and historical landmarks such as Skanderbeg Square. 

The campus includes libraries, modern labs and student facilities. The university is also responsible for managing the Botanical Gardens of Tirana, a key site for ecological research and education.

It supports student mobility and international cooperation, offering education in line with the Bologna Process.

Academically, the university is organised into 11 faculties including Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Law, Economics, History and Philology, Foreign Languages, and Political Science. Across these faculties, UT offers a wide range of degree programmes at bachelor, master’s, and doctoral levels. Several courses are also taught in foreign languages such as English, French, German, and Italian.

The university also hosts several research centres focusing on areas such as Albanian studies, European integration, and social sciences, supporting both academic research and community engagement.
