About the University of Zintan

Basic information and contact details for the University of Zintan

institution

The University of Zintan has a history that dates back to 1991 with the establishment of the College of Science under the University of Al Jabel Al Gharbi. It operated as part of that institution until 2017, when a national restructuring of higher education led to its independence under the name the University of Zintan.

The university is located in Zintan, a historic city in northwestern Libya, situated in the peaks of the Nafusa Mountains around 160 kilometres southwest of Tripoli.

The University of Zintan is organised into numerous faculties including economics and political science, education, arts, medicine, accounting, engineering, dentistry, and agricultural and vet sciences. Each faculty is divided into different departments, which offer a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.

Outside the classroom, students are encouraged to participate in the various cultural and sporting activities held by the Activity Department of the Ministry of Higher Education. There are several clubs, societies and events for students to get involved in throughout the academic year.
