Popular belief that improved public transport and more cycling will solve traffic congestion, air pollution and accidents is a myth, says John Wotton of Southampton University's transport research group. The solution actually lies in changing the shape of towns , changing travel habits and introducing new technology to modify the use and control of private cars, a research project has concluded.
