Scottish establishment stifles entrepreneurs

SCOTS may not be so canny when it comes to fostering entrepreneurial spirit, according to the Economic and Social Research Council. Mike Danson, professor of economics at Paisley University, blames banks, accountants and enterprise agencies for failing to support entrepreneurs, particularly women and people from poorer backgrounds. Professor Danson blames a lack of coherent economic planning and the "dependency culture and restrictive networks" of the Scottish establishment.
