A still politically-active alumnus of early 1970s Sussex University, cherishing memories of days when the Falmer campus's public spaces were "like one giant wall newspaper" advertising a vast melange of meetings and political activities, took the opportunity to visit his alma mater the other week as a break from the Labour conference. "No evidence of political activity anywhere - posters for Christian Union, Industrial Society, sports clubs, but nothing political," he mused - before brightening suddenly with the thought "at least the students still look the same".
