An investigation of contaminated land sites in central Scotland is being undertaken by Edinburgh University researchers thanks to a Pounds 285,000 grant from the Natural Environment Research Council.

Led by John Farmer and Margaret Graham of Edinburgh's environmental chemistry unit, the work will aim to produce chemical and physical models capable of predicting the effectiveness and durability of remedial treatments under varying environmental and site conditions.

Project collaborators include Macaulay Land Use Research Institute in Aberdeen, the isotope geosciences unit of the Scottish Universities Research and Reactor Centre in East Kilbride, and the laboratory services of East of Scotland Water.
